Overview

A variety of third-party online proctoring services exist to support exam integrity, and MSU has approved use of Respondus Monitor, Examity and Remote Proctor NOW. These services use the camera and microphone provided by a student's computer to capture video and audio while the student works on an online exam. Video of the exam session is available for review by the instructor.

Either Respondus Monitor or Examity can be used with a LON-CAPA quiz or exam. Respondus Monitor offers automated online proctoring and requires a student to download Respondus Lockdown Browser, and install it on a computer used to take the quiz/exam. Examity uses GoToMeeting, which a student will download and install on their computer.

Respondus Monitor uses automated monitoring whereas Examity offers real-time proctoring with a live remote proctor. MSU makes Respondus Lockdown Browser/Monitor available at no cost via launch from a D2L course. For Examity, per student fees will need to be paid (by a department) to Examity.
